I know I've seen it before but I cannot remember the title.
A little girl who originally grew up in Africa (maybe India?) is sent to a very prestigous boarding school. Her father goes off to war, and then she is told he dies. With no mother or father to pay for the school, she becomes a servant at it. She lives in the attick with a young black girl. In the end it turns out he is alive, and is coincidentally living next door, but he has amnesia and doesn't remember her.
