Is Someone Who Lost Their Memory Technically Dead?

Ive been watching alot of amnesia movies. So I started wondering about this. The original person doesn't exist for sometime. So that person is gone. Now the body still alive but the mind is different. Am I making sense? Is Someone Who Lost Their Memory Technically Dead?
They are emotionally dead, but not even technically dead.

the person still lives and can make NEW memories
I think as long as the body is alive, the person is medically alive. Only when the body ceases to function at all can a person be declared dead.Is Someone Who Lost Their Memory Technically Dead?
No dead is when the heart stops. Their mind might be dead though.
Well it's not much of a quality of life but the person who has any life is still alive. Is Someone Who Lost Their Memory Technically Dead?
yeah, I get what you saying here, but I don't think just because their memory is dead that they are physically dead aswell. :-)
Just because someone can't remember anything doesn't mean they're necessarily dead. You're pretty much dead when your heart stops, so if someone's heart is still beating, I don't consider them dead, whether or not they remember who I am or not.
no to be technically dead your heart has to stop beating
If they are a different person, maybe the origional person would be dead, but the new person would not be.

However if the person is unresponsive, then they would be declared dead.
You are making sense, and that is an interesting way of thinking. But, no, that person isn't dead. Think of the disease alzheimer's, one suffers from brain dementure and begins to forget.. does that mean he is dead when he evenually forgets everything?
Yeah your making sense. Officially no, the person is not dead. All organs are functioning so life processes continue. But that's not what you meant. This is an ethical question with, I'm sad to say, no yes/ no answer. On one hand the persons memories live on with the people around them, so they can, to a degree, learn some of their old experiences. However, the person can never truly have the same memories. I have been watching a television series on Discover Channel and there is a woman who lost all long term memory. So she has no memory of her life or her children's for that mater. Her family members say she acts and talks like a completely different person. If this is the case, she might as well be a new person.

I'm sorry I can give you a great answer, I hope this gives you some food for thought.
Losing your memory and being brain dead are two completely different things. If you lose your memory that wont effect your personality, you can start to re-live your life. Just not with the same knowledge you had before. But being brain dead means that person is gone, the only tihng that IS left of them is their body.
