Movie with title something like "Welcome Home, Johnny Bristol"?

It freaked me out a bit when I first saw it almost twenty years ago. (And it was already an old movie then). In it, a soldier who has amnesia is certain he comes from a town named - I think - Plains, Vermont. His records, however, indicate that he was actually from another town, so he is returned there. Essentially, the rest of the movie is the soldier trying to find out why "Plains, Vermont" is so signficant to him. He goes around questioning people, and they seem to know something but definitely don't want to talk about it. In the end, we find out that while the soldier was a child, his parents were murdered at a street corner in the town and, you guessed it, it was the corner of Plains and Vermont streets. The final shot of the film looks something like the icon to "Answers on the Street" on this site. I have tried to look up this movie online several times but had no luck, so I'm guessing I don't have the title exactly right. Please help me out if you can. Thanks!Movie with title something like "Welcome Home, Johnny Bristol"?
You have the title. It stars Martin Landau as the very confused Johnny Bristol.

This was a TV movie that I remember quite well. It's a great mystery film and should be shown more.Movie with title something like "Welcome Home, Johnny Bristol"?
Could this made for TV movie be the one you're thinking of?

Welcome Home, Johnny Bristol:

An American soldier manages to endure his captivity in a Vietnamese POW camp by keeping alive the memories of life in his home town. When he is finally released from the camp, and is discharged from the military, he goes back to his town - but he can find no trace whatsoever of it

Is complete retrograde amnesia possible?

Retrograde amnesia is when a person loses SOME memory leading up to a trauma (like a head injury). But is it possible to lose ALL previous memory (as suggested by movies and television)? Is complete retrograde amnesia possible?
I haven't heard of a case, nor am I a doctor, but if you want to look into it, go to research firm's websites like the Mayo Clinic (http://mayoclinic.com/) or ask a professional. Is complete retrograde amnesia possible?

'Groundhog Day' movie - psychological meanings?

Is there some similarity within this film about being 'locked-in' to a mental state suffered by those with dementia and/or amnesia...?

If so I'd be grateful to know of some parts of the movie theme that present that similarity.'Groundhog Day' movie - psychological meanings?
Well, you could start with the fact that Bill Murray openly states he has no idea how many times he had relived that same day. How is that similar to dementia?

Allow me to retell a story about my grandmother when she was in the first five years down her path of dementia hell.

So, after a six week absence I visit my grandmother, and notice by chance that the same book is on the coffee table that I saw from my last visit. Knowing full well that my grandmother, fluent in four languages, was a very fast reader, I asked why she was still reading the same book.

Her response was touching, heart warming and all together revealing insight into this disease. She said plainly " Well, it's a good book, and with my memory fading as fast as it has been, I can read a chapter, and within 48 hours, I don't remember so much that I cannot continually reread that same chapter."

The blur, the fog, the confusion... the part that is often hard for people who are forgetting their own life is, they don't remember how much it is that they have forgotten. Bill Murray had lived a full life in a single day. He learned musical instruments, associated with all the people he could reach and his original life, and perhaps even his perpetually retold life were both a blur. Not a single line in this movie was unforgettable, but Mr Murray's performance, and the concept of the film are iconic and will be difficult to copy without coming off as cheap.'Groundhog Day' movie - psychological meanings?

The main plot is about several persons, who were doomed to forever witness the death of all people. They were doomed after witnessing the death of Jesus. The main actress has amnesia and gets followed throughout the movie by the "colleagues of suffering", who are trying to remind her of her belonging to this doomed group. I remember watching this movie maybe back in 2004-ish. It involves a bunch of warriors, one has a huge hammer, i remember and they all die near the end. It stars some guy who gets amnesia i think and he gains his powers back when he makes a ball of water in a barrel. The movie ends with him pushing the bad general guy off into a pile of spikes. HelpWhat martial arts movie is this?
    Mortal Kombat.

Well, the villain is called Shao Kan. He takes the souls of any of the losers. He invites warriors to fight in this island. There is Johnny Cash (the actor), Red Sonja, the hero Lou, then the girls who wears shorts who kills the guy with an eye patch. And as for the water bucket scene there are these two ugly ninja type guys. One can freeze with these blasts from his hands. The other (called Scorpion) has a snake coming out of his hand. He fights Cash. In the last scene Lou and Shao Kan fight in a hall where there are spikes on the floor.

How do you do a 5 axis psychological writeup?

I have to watch a movie for school(im doing memento) and we have to do a full 5 axis psychological evaluation and writeup, is there anything more to it than just: Axis I- anterograde amnesia, Axis II-blank, etc? Or is it done in like essay format explaining why you believe he has anterograde amnesia? How do you do a 5 axis psychological writeup?
I guess this is better answered by your professor/teacher. There is no such thing as a standard 5-axis writeup so the conditions are specific to this assignment. If I had to guess, I would say that you would identify the appropriate conditions under each axis, and explain why. Most conditions have a laundry list of criteria, but you only have to have a certain number of them. You probably would need to state which criteria had been met, and show evidence of why you think they were met.

There was a movie 10-15 years ago that I don't recall much about it but this is what I remember. It was like a hallmark type movie. A woman somehow gets amnesia and doesn't remember her husband or son. She had blonde hair. I also remember a scene where they are in the closet and he is showing her pictures to jog her memory but she doesn't remember and he gets really frustrated and angry with her. To the best of my recollection she does regain her memory at the end of the movie. I loved:

    It's a wonderful Life

    The Christmas story

    Miracle on 34th street

Also, the movie ELF---was funny, Chevy Chase Christmas vacation was funny.......I guess I like just about all of them......

    Meet Me in St. Louis

The Santa ClauseWhat is your favorite Christmas holiday movie?
It's a Wonderful Life ....Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed
I like A Christmas Story with Peter Billingsly and all the faves above, except, I did not see the Nancy McKeon one. I also like the really bad animated movie about the defective toys going to "misfit" island with the abominable snowman...
A Christmas Story...you'll shoot you're eye out...and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is good for a laugh...but my favorite that I must watch every year is A Muppet's Christmas Carol!! I love the music and comedy...
Christmas Story. You'll shoot your eye out. Its the best.

Its A Wonderful Life is nice once every other year.

Scrooge with Bill Murray. (I think that was the title anyway).

And the original Godzilla plowing through downtown Tokyo makes for a good change of pace. I associate Godzilla with Christmas because the first time I ever so it, it was near Christmas. And that was eons ago.

    A side note here:

too many Christmas movies and cartoon. My granddaughter has a very nice collection of cartoon and movies. I wish it was toned down during Christmas.
One of my favorites is "Miracle on 34th Street" with Maureen O'Hara, John Payne and Edmund Gwenn.
"White Christmas" ....... I love the part where Bing and Danny lip sing to "Sisters" !!! Hahaha... It is hilarious !!!!!!
    I like A Christmas Carol.
    Christmas Vacation w/Chevy Chase.
    Little Women

    Snow Birds
I saw the one with Nancy McKeon last year and loved it. She was in a car accident and met her future husband in a dream.

My favourite one for the last few years is the one where Dolly Parton is an angel and to get her wings she has to help someone on earth. I wish I could remember the name for it. darn. She sings in it and helps a family whose wife/mom died and they don't have the Christmas spirit. I love anything with Dolly in it anyway.

There are a few animated movies that I have enjoyed over the years. Annabelles'Wish starring Randy Travis., Christopher the Christmas Tree and one I haven't seen for a while Emmet Otters' Christmas Jug Band . It's like O 'Henrys' The Gift of the Magi.
'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation'-I love Chevy Chase.

'Gremlins', is another favorite, it has a Christmas time setting.

'The Year Without Santa', is my favorite animated one. I love to hear those songs Heat Miser and Snow Miser sing.
    A Christmas story.

    "You'll shoot your eye out"
    miracle on 34th street

but it has to be the original

    still makes me cry
I'm amazed "It's A Wonderful Life" didn't landslide all the other movies.

Oh, well, I'll take a look at AFI's 100 Greatest Movies list and feel better in just a minute.
"A Christmas Story" I love Ralphie's imagination! We watch it every year. We even have a leg lamp in our window.

There was an old movie that I loved, I cn't remember the name, where there was a poor couple. He sold his watch to buy combs for her hair. She cut her hair to buy him a watchband ( or something for his watch). If I knew the name of the movie, I could rent it and refresh my memory. Do you know which movie I am talking about?
As classic movies go, It's a Wonderful Life is one of my favorites. But every year my husband and I make it a point to watch Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. We know almost every line in the movie, but we laugh our butts off every time we watch it! I especially love the Aunt Bethany character, and when she arrives at the Griswold's party. The lights on their house are so bright. When she walks in, she asks "Is your house on fire, Clark?" LOL! Funniest Christmas comedy ever!
    White Christmas

Miracle on 34th Street - with Maureen Ohara
    You mean there were others?

"It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street."

Actually, we like to watch the new "Lifetime" movies each Christmastime. There have been some great ones. I especially enjoyed the one Donya mentioned, with Dolly Parton as an angel.
"Its a wonderful life" with Jimmy Stewart..Classic!
    Santa Claus 3
A Christmas Story. The funniest Christmas movie EVER!

    http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1800341039鈥?/a>

If you are a senior and haven't seen it........you're in for treat!
Miracle on 34th Street is most fav.

    It's a Wonderful life

and the one about the bbgun or rifle...can't remember the title.
My all-time favorite was A Christmas Carol made in

black and white in 1951 and starred Alastair Sim.

No Scrooge movie can touch that one.

My next favorite is A Christmas Story. It's about a little boy

named Ralphie who wants a Red Ryder BB gun for

Christmas. It's a hoot. It reminds my hubby of the

Christmases when he was a kid in the 1950's.
    WHITE CHRISTMAS......I LOVE THAT MOVIE

There are different types of memory, for example procedural memory (i.e. automated skills) and declarative memory (personal episodes or abstract facts), and often only one type is impaired in amnsia. For example, a person may forget the details of personal identity, but still retain a learned skill such as the ability to play the piano.

Is there any book, movie, or video game that is scarier than Amnesia: The Dark Descent? Amnesia is the scariest game I have ever seen, and I would like to know if there is anything scarier. Please try to respond with only PC games, and please exclude Resident Evil or Silent Hill. Neither of those series hold what I am looking for.Scarier than Amnesia: The Dark Descent?
    Hmm...

    Short answer; absolutely nothing.

But there are some pretty scary games out there; Dead Space and Dead Space 2

The first one is a bit scarier in my opinion, as you are ALL ALONE except for the monsters, and you never hear a human voice the entire game. While playing them, I literally could scream for a solid 10 minutes. The there would be a 30 second break. Followed by more screaming.

But in Amnesia: The Dark Descent I wet my pants every two seconds (exaggeration, but hey, the game is pretty damn scary)

Girl goes to Hollywood, falls for a fellow struggling actress. When the career of the lover takes off, girl is strung along like a remora fish in her ex-lover's wake but eventually her obsessive behavior leads to the ex-lover publicly humiliating her and dumping her. Distraught, she arranges a hit on her ex-lover, and is led to believe it has been successful. Even more distraught, she dreams of an alternative reality where she is the roaring success and her ex is dependent on her. General head-messiness makes the dream turn sour. She wakes up, remembers what she has done, and as loud knocks are heard on her door (police?) she kills herself.

I know I've seen it before but I cannot remember the title.

A little girl who originally grew up in Africa (maybe India?) is sent to a very prestigous boarding school. Her father goes off to war, and then she is told he dies. With no mother or father to pay for the school, she becomes a servant at it. She lives in the attick with a young black girl. In the end it turns out he is alive, and is coincidentally living next door, but he has amnesia and doesn't remember her.

When is a movie of a book not a movie of a book?

The recent Bourne Trilogy has really only two elements of the Ludlum books. A spy/agent/assassin and amnesia. Apart from that the movies represent a completely different story. Even the characters are changed. The original Bond books are also completely different.

So, given the Trades Description Act is enforced with sales and product literature - how come it is not applied to movies. Adaptation does not mean a different story. 'Based on' implies a plot similarity.

So, where is the line drawn? When is a movie of a book not a movie of a book?
The filmmakers buy the book and do with what they want with it

look at 1968 Casino Royale, nothing like the book. Look also at most of the later Roger Moore named film, nothing like the books or Novellas they were named after

Anne Rice once said there are her books and then there are movies which have her books titlesWhen is a movie of a book not a movie of a book?
it seems you have way to much time on your hands if your reading books and seeing movies , then complaining about the differences.get over it. with all the problems in the world, maybe you could fixate on something more realistic. When is a movie of a book not a movie of a book?
Sorry to cheese everyone off by mentioning it but the Harry Potter movies have been a big disappointment compared to the books all except for Gary Oldman as Sirius Black.
If a movie is adapted from a book, it tends to follow the story fairly closely, without being a word for word version. If it is based on the book, then the screenwriter has pretty much a free rein in how he/she chooses to get the characters to the end.

What is the name of the movie?

Does anyone remember the name of the movie that was out around the same time as Romancing the Stone in which the Heroine wins a trip to Europe - her husband won't go, when she gets there, she gets amnesia and thinks that she is a detective/spy or something and keeps doing things that cause one man in particular harm - and when she remembers who she is, apologizes and says she must have imagined it all, but it turns out that he really was a thief?

(The only quote I remember is "The money - it was too good")What is the name of the movie?
The movie came out in 1984 and starred Tom Conti and the gorgeous JoBeth Williams: American Dreamer.

  • Name the movie I think its a comedy?

There's a man who has amnesia (or is just stupid), his wife and everyone around him are actually actors trying to convince him he's a millionaire. There's a scene where the man enters a yodeling contest with his supposed wife. In this scene the woman realizes she is falling for the guy. In the end the woman trys to help the guy because the other peolpe are trying to kill him. Yeah, it's a chick-flick.

Name the movie I think its a comedy?
I think it's "GREEDY" released in 1994 starring Michael J. Fox as the nephew of a aging single Millionaire played by veteran actor, Kirk Douglas. The Millionaire basically begins to take interest in a MUCH younger lady who is his nurse and the rest of the family scramble to try and get into his "good books" so they inherit the money instead and plan to use Michael J. Fox's character to make it happen and without givin' too much away some actors are used by the family to play parts to fool the Millionaire into giving the money over to the family members.

    The movie memento HELLLLPPPPP?

how does the movie portray various ideas of memory and memory loss,,, such as short and long term memory, declarative and procedural memory and anterograde amnesia...... help please that movie is so confusingThe movie memento HELLLLPPPPP?
this is my favorite movie of ALL time. no joke. i watch it all the time and i would have to say the short term memory loss is the most obvious because he will wake up the next day and not know what just happened so he has to get tattoos to help him remember. it portrays the loss of declarative memory because he gets facts and nonfacts mixed up and he will believe something that may not be true because he doesnt have the ability to remember. the procedural memory loss is what i can't think of any examples of because he remembers how to do everything. he always remembers how to get tattoos and how to remind himself of things that he will forget. so i'm not sure what to say about that..

he displays the anterograde amnesia because he remembers everything that happened up until the killing of his wife. after that he doesnt remember anything that comes to him short term.

i hope i helped you out!! i absolutely love this movie! The movie memento HELLLLPPPPP?
Obviously he has short term memory lost because whenever he wakes up in the morning he doesn't remember anything that happened the previous day. So he gets tatoos to help him remember and that triggers his long term memory.

I would help more, but I've only seen the movie once.

    STORYLINE

A main character name is Selame and he has amnesia

The movie opens with him in a hospital bed with a bandage on his face, his wife tells him he had plastic surgery because they were in a car accident. His friend suspect something is going on and tries to remind him of his doubts and suspicion he had concerning his wife's affair with another man. Everything doesn't seem to make sense- the accident, her version of the story... she tells him he killed the man when he caught her with him: the infidelity. She tells him she won't reveal the murder and to prove her loyalty, he tries to uncover the truth and regain his memory.. Eventually, a dead body with a disfigured face hidden in a abandon house triggers his memory, and he is unnerved to discover he isn't who he thinks he is. He isn't Selame - it is all a sick, twisted part of her scheme. He is in fact the man who had an liaison with her. He is the other man. She killed Selame and dissected his face and told a plastic surgery to make the main character resemble her deceased husband.

By the way, this movie isn't in english, there were subtitles, it is a european movie. What is the name of this movie? Help?!?

Thriller is a broad genre of literature, film, television, and gaming that includes numerous and often overlapping sub-genres.[citation needed] Thrillers are characterized by fast pacing, frequent action, and resourceful heroes who must thwart the plans of more-powerful and better-equipped villains.[citation needed] Writer Vladimir Nabokov, in his lectures at Cornell University, said that "In an Anglo-Saxon thriller, the villain is generally punished, and the strong silent man generally wins the weak babbling girl, but there is no governmental law in Western countries to ban a story that does not comply with a fond tradition, so that we always hope that the wicked but romantic fellow will escape scot-free and the good but dull chap will be finally snubbed by the moody heroine.[1]

Literary devices such as suspense, red herrings and cliffhangers are used extensively. "Homer's Odyssey is one of the oldest stories in the Western world and is regarded as an early prototype of the thriller." [2] A thriller is villain driven plot, whereby he presents obstacles the hero must overcome.[2]

The genre is a fascinatingly flexible form that can undermine audience complacency through a dramatic rendering of psychological, social, familial and political tensions and encourages sheltered but sensation-hungry audiences, in Hitchcock's phrase, "to put their toe in the cold water of fear to see what it's like

Film Noir Double Feature, Vol. 2: The Chase/Bury Me Dead

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, overall..., October 14, 2004
By Michael C. Glancy (Clinton,OK United States) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
This dvd contains 2 films: THE CHASE (1946--85 min.) starring Robert Cummings, Michelle Morgan, Steve Cochran, and Peter Lorre. This is a pretty good movie about a guy who finds a mobsters' wallet, returns it to him, becomes the mobsters' chauffeur, then becomes dangerously involved with the mobsters' wife. A little on the surreal side but still a good film. This film is said to have the most dreamlike atmosphere of all the noir titles. The audio and video quality is pretty good also. Before the film starts, there is an explanation of how difficult the restoration was. It talks about finding only 1 good print and dealing with a soundtrack that had sprocket holes in it. I think they did a very good job of cleaning this film up and bringing it up to par for DVD audiences. The audio during the opening titles of this movie isn't too good, but it clears up once the story starts. This is the better movie of the 2 in my opinion.

The second film is BURY ME DEAD (1947--68 min.) starring Hugh Beaumont, June Lockhart, and Cathy O'Donnell. This is an OK film about a woman who shows up at her own funeral then tries to find out who wanted her dead. The audio and video quality on this film is not too bad. The clarity is somewhat soft and the audio has some static here and there. This is probably the best print of this film available. Let's remember that this was just another B movie that was made by PRC, a poverty row independent studio. We're probably fortunate that this film still exists.

As extras, there is a commentary on both films by Jay Fenton, a noirish Superman cartoon titled SHOWDOWN (1942), some film noir posters and trailers, and a 25 minute film called DEATH BY PROXY which is a condensed version of BURY ME DEAD. This looks to be a 16mm film bought from a catalog for home viewing years ago.

All in all this is a pretty good disc, especially for the price. This may very well be the best presentation that both of these films get on DVD.A movie in which woman kills an buries lover, but he turns up with amnesia as her Dr....?
What Lies Beneath is a very frightening and scary movie with all the traits of a classic thriller. With the excellent casting of Pfeiffer and Ford, along with Zemeckis's excellent techniques of terrifying the audience, it is truly a great film.

Claire Spencer (Michelle Pfeiffer) moves to Vermont after a serious car accident leaves gaps in her memory. She is married to the renowned scientist Dr. Norman Spencer (Harrison Ford). Claire overhears her neighbor, Mary Feur (Miranda Otto) sobbing one day. Norman reassures Claire, but when she wakes in the middle of the night, Claire sees Mary's husband Warren (James Remar) dragging what looks like a body bag out of the house.
Claire decides to investigate by taking a basket of flowers and wine to the house as a "Welcome Gift". After nobody answers the door she walks round the side of the house and makes a startling discovery; a woman's sandal with a dark stain on it. Warren returns as she is leaving the basket on his doorstep, and Claire explains why she was there and asks where Mary is. Warren gives a vague answer which leaves Claire even more worried.
Mysterious events begin happening when Claire is alone in the house鈥攆alling pictures, opening and closing doors, a shadowy reflection in the bathwater鈥攁nd Claire then believes that Mary is dead, and is now haunting her. Norman thinks that Claire is feeling a bit empty since their daughter has left for college, and is only seeking attention. Desperate for closure, Claire invites her best friend Jody to join her for a s茅ance in her bathroom where she had seen the reflection of Mary. Claire produces the sandal she had earlier taken from Mary's house, and places it on the table. The Ouija board does not move, but a candle starts to flicker, then goes out. The dial on the Ouija board then starts to move slowly from M to F.

Movie about amnesia / memory loss - need help please!?

Can you guys help me out?? I remember watching a movie - where the main actor had amnesia or memory loss. He did not know who he was. I cannot recall the exact plot (as I did not see the entire movie) but this character ran across a couple who had a van and lured (abducted) children. Needless to say when the guy with memory loss ran into this couple at their home....he shot the couple and released a boy who was bound in the closet. The plot goes deeper than this however.

That is all I remember from this movie...I know it is a far stretch, but can anyone help???Movie about amnesia / memory loss - need help please!?

You do realize the irony of you not being able to remember a movie about memory loss right? :)Movie about amnesia / memory loss - need help please!?
It could be one of a lot of movies as amnesia (protagonist doesn't know who he/she is) has been used a lot. In reality, that level of amnesia is very rare. Psychogenic amnesia is the scientific term for repressed memories, such as traumatic experiences in childhood that the mind represses because the child does not have the abilities to process or communicate to others what has happened. I would ask your specific question, the name of this movie, in a film forum. Movie buffs are more likely to remember this.

Does anybody know how I can get in contact with a movie producer in order to submit a movie plot?

I would particularly like getting in touch with James Cameron to submit a movie idea. I know, it's far fetched but I have a wonderful idea for a sequel to Titanic. What do you think of this? When Jack submerged under the water, he could have entered a portal to a different world. He could be alive and well. He could come back to this world a year later, but suffering from amnesia. Rose could see him one day, and she tries to tell him who she is, but he doesn't remember. At the end of the movie, she shows him the drawing he drew of her, and he suddenly remembers. They live happily ever after. Another idea is that Rose is contacted by a time travel expert. He contacts her and tells her there is a way to go back in time and redo the whole outcome so that she can save Jack. What do you all think? If anyone knows how to submit movie plots to movie producers, please let me know. Thank you.Does anybody know how I can get in contact with a movie producer in order to submit a movie plot?
buy a copy of the "Hollywood Reporter" or "Variety" and in the back is the info you wantDoes anybody know how I can get in contact with a movie producer in order to submit a movie plot?
good luck with that... first you would need an agent to even pitch the idea... but you need to sell and idea to get an agent.. its a total catch 22.. hopefully you know someone that knows someone.. or have lots of money.. and by the way a sequel to titanic.. you are kidding i hope.Does anybody know how I can get in contact with a movie producer in order to submit a movie plot?
No offense, but those ideas totally suck!
Generally, an easy way to get your movie Idea looked at is to write a script and mail it to Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount, or whom ever was the Studio who did Titanic. However... a plot idea general isn't something that is as easy to get looked at. I suggest writing a treatment of the story, or a script.

...A sheriff gets amnesia at christmas time.
I'm looking for the name of a movie for my grandpa. He watched it on either encore westerns or the hallmark channel. It is about a sheriff that goes on a job to get money for their kids' Christmas. Something happens and he gets amnesia. He said it's a real tear jerker.Name of movie from either encore westerns or the hallmark channel....?
The Western is a fiction genre seen in film, television, radio, literature, painting and other visual arts. Westerns are devoted to telling stories set primarily in the later half of the 19th century in what became the Western United States (known as the American Old West or Wild West), but also in Western Canada, Mexico (The Wild Bunch, Vera Cruz), Alaska (The Far Country, North to Alaska) and even Australia (Quigley Down Under, The Proposition). Some Westerns are set as early as the Battle of the Alamo in 1836 but most are set between the end of the American Civil War and the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890, though there are several "late Westerns" (e.g., The Wild Bunch and 100 Rifles) set as late as the Mexican Revolution in 1913. There are also a number of films about Western-type characters in contemporary settings where they don't fit in, such as Junior Bonner set in the 1970s, and Down in the Valley and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada in the 21st Century.

Westerns often portray how primitive and obsolete ways of life confronted modern technological or social changes. This may be depicted by showing conflict between natives and settlers or U.S. Cavalry or between sheep and cattle farmers, or by showing ranchers being threatened by the onset of the Industrial Revolution. American Westerns of the 1940s and 1950s emphasize the values of honor and sacrifice. Westerns from the 1960s and 1970s often have more pessimistic view, glorifying a rebellious anti-hero and highlighting the cynicism, brutality and inequality of the American West. Despite being tightly associated with a specific time and place in American history, these themes have allowed Westerns to be produced and enjoyed across the world.
The Western genre, particularly in films, often portrays the conquest of the wilderness and the subordination of nature in the name of civilization or the confiscation of the territorial rights of the original inhabitants of the frontier. The Western depicts a society organized around codes of honor and personal, direct or private justice , rather than any rationalistic, abstract law, in which persons have no social order larger than their immediate peers, family, or perhaps themselves alone. The popular perception of the Western is a story that centers on the life of a semi-nomadic wanderer, usually a cowboy or a gunfighter.

In some ways, such protagonists may be considered the literary descendants of the knight errant which stood at the center of an earlier extensive genre. Like the cowboy or gunfighter of the Western, the knight errant of the earlier European tales and poetry was wandering from place to place on his horse, fighting villains of various kinds and bound to no fixed social structures but only to his own innate code of honor. And like knights errant, the heroes of Westerns frequently rescue damsels in distress.

The Western typically takes these elements and uses them to tell simple morality tales, usually set against the spectacular scenery of the American West, although some notable examples (e.g. the later Westerns of John Ford or Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven) are more morally ambiguous. Westerns often stress the harshness of the wilderness and frequently set the action in a desert-like landscape. Specific settings include isolated forts, ranches and homesteads; the Native American village; or the small frontier town with its saloon, general store, livery stable and jailhouse. Apart from the wilderness, it is usually the saloon that emphasizes that this is the "Wild West": it is the place to go for music (raucous piano playing), girls (often prostitutes), gambling (draw poker or five card stud), drinking (beer or whiskey), brawling and shooting. In some Westerns, where "civilization" has arrived, the town has a church and a school; in others, where frontier rules still hold sway, it is, as Sergio Leone said, "where life has no value".
As you can tell, we're a little excited about Australia, Baz Luhrmann's epic romantic adventure starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. And now it seems that we are going to have to wait just a little bit longer for it, as the release date has been pushed back, from November 14 to the 26 (damn you, Harry Potter!). Although I suppose it will be nice to have a visit with Hugh and Nicole for Thanksgiving.

In the meantime, you can check out the film's official website, including an array of stunning photos and a host of behind-the-scenes podcasts.Name of movie from either encore westerns or the hallmark channel....?

MA AND PA KETTLE AT HOME - Percy Kilbride and Marjorie Main reprise their roles in this, the sixth in the series. One of their sons is a finalist in an essay contest. If he wins, he gets a college scholarship. He wrote about the Kettle farm and exaggerated it quite a bit! Before the judges come to inspect the farm, the Kettle family must work to get the place in working order again. Very funny movie, which may be the best in the series. Kudos to the two indians, Geoduck and Crowbar, who end up doing nearly all of Pa's work for him. In the end, we also witness Christmas with the Kettles, which features Pa in a Santa Claus beard.

MA %26amp; PA KETTLE ON VACATION - Percy Kilbride and Marjorie Main star in the fifth film of the series. They travel with their son's in-laws, on a vacation to Paris. Pa meets a mysterious man on the plane, who gives him an envelope. It turns out that the guy is a spy. Pa spends the rest of the film being pursued by spies, who are in turn being followed by the government. Decent flick, but mostly caters to fans of the series. Pa's naivete is astounding!

MA %26amp; PA KETTLE BACK ON THE FARM - Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride star in the third entry of the series. This time, their son is about to become a father - thus making them grandparents for the first time. However, their daughter-in-law's mother doesn't want the Kettles anywhere near the baby. She wants to take her daughter and grandson back to Boston. Meanwhile, there's a subplot about some people who try to con Pa out of their old farm because they think there's uranium on the property. Typical cornball humor, though quite entertaining. The two stars are perfectly cast in their roles. Pa Kettle has got to be the most laid back, laziest person ever filmed!

MA %26amp; PA KETTLE AT WAIKIKI - Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride stars in their seventh film as the title characters. Pa's cousin Rodney runs a successful fruit business in Hawaii. For years, Pa's been sending him letters, bragging about his own "successes" in America. When the bank forces Rodney to take some time off, he sends for Pa to come and run the business. Through a series of mishaps, and despite getting himself kidnapped, Pa is able to save the company. Typical Ma %26amp; Pa Kettle film is funny and entertaining. Look for Russell Johnson (Gilligan's Island professor) in a small role as one of the kidnappers. This is the last film Kilbride ever made.

MADHOUSE (1974) - Vincent Price plays Paul Toombes, a horror movie actor. His famous recurring film role is a character named Dr. Death. After his fiance is decapitated by someone in a Dr. Death costume, Price is hospitalized for several years. Upon his release, he revives Dr. Death for a TV series. Soon after, more "Dr. Death" killings occur. Price is unsure if he's actually committing them. Peter Cushing costars as Price's friend and director. Price can put forth a great scream, and look of shock.

THE MAGIC CHRISTIAN - Virtually plotless film about an eccentric millionaire (Peter Sellers) who "adopts" a new son (Ringo Starr). Together, they travel around, tempting people with money, to see just how far people will go to get it. The film turns out to be rather funny and entertaining. Christopher Lee has a cameo - as a vampire no less! And Raquel Welch plays a very brief role as a "whipmaster" of dozens of topless slave girls! The last scene features a giant vat full of animal blood, urine and feces. It's truly disgusting! Badfinger's "Come And Get It" is featured several times.Name of movie from either encore westerns or the hallmark channel....?
We've all been there ... the evil intergalactic corporation you work for goes belly up thanks to a pesky do-gooder rebellion, and you find yourself without a job. It's enough to make anybody a little cranky; just take a look at our pal, the Disgruntled Stormtrooper.

Since the fall of the Empire, ol' Stormie here has tried his hand at various odd jobs (Burger King, used car salesman, Hooters) and even landed the odd movie role or two (Saturday Night Trooper, Troopsie, Brokeback Trooper). His ever-continuing quest for a steady paycheck has gained him his own little niche of celebrity, however, allowing him to collaborate with such musical superstars as Aerosmith, Elton John and Dolly Parton. Stormie even has met a few of his personal heroes, including David Hasselhoff, Don Johnson and Mr. Steven Seagal.

Alas, with all that fame and no fortune to show for it, he still lives up to his name. But cheer up, Disgruntled Stormtrooper! You are this week's Movie Dearest MySpace Friend of the Week!

When you remember the name of a movie by using a memory of the fact that you got sick at the theater, you?

I originally thought it was proactive amnesia but the more I thought about it it may have been sensory gating. Please help? When you remember the name of a movie by using a memory of the fact that you got sick at the theater, you?
Isn't proactive amnesia when you can't learn something new because something old blocks it? That's not the case here; you still remembered the name of the movie.

And sensory gating is when you receive two sensory stimuli but the brain blocks one. I don't think it's that either.

Honestly, I think it's context. You remember the name of the movie because of another, simultaneous event.

Does amnesia ever work like it does in the movies?

i cant rememberDoes amnesia ever work like it does in the movies?
It depends which movie you mean. After i watched 50 first dates, I researched it, and found that people cannot lose merely their short term memory. So it would be impossible for someone to wake up every day thinking that it was a date in the past, like Lucy did in 50 First DatesDoes amnesia ever work like it does in the movies?
I had an amnesia once but I forgot how it affected me.Does amnesia ever work like it does in the movies?
The movies are mostly fiction, so the answer is no

  • Is there a real amnesia story for love?

i have read at least fifty stories where a character in love with someone turns into an amnesiac or is an amnesiac but has that actually happened in real life OTHER than that story that's now a movie that comes out on valentines day?Is there a real amnesia story for love?
As far as I know, it's happened in real life, otherwise it wouldn't be that popular a theme for movies/novels. Not sure if the amnesiac falls in love again, but I'm sure this situation has occurred at some point.

How come when someone suffers from amnesia they still remember how speak, read, write, etc.?

At least that's how it's portrayed in the movies. Is it like that in real life? How come when someone suffers from amnesia they still remember how speak, read, write, etc.?
Speech , writing and reading are all SKILLS , rather than memories . Just like how to walk , how to drive a car or a bicycle .

Skills are stored on a lower , less conscious level than abstract memories .

However , in some brain lesions one DOES forget how to write for example , it's not so much forgetting as it is "failing" to perform .

Different information are stored in different segments of the brain .How come when someone suffers from amnesia they still remember how speak, read, write, etc.?
What Amnesia does is affect how the victim remembers events in the past, or memories. It can also spread so the victim can't remember certain things such as family, friends, daily routines, etc. From what I have heard, Amnesia victims normally recover from this illness, but it can take a long time.

What are the names of movies that have a woman in a car crash and develop amnesia who has children?

Are you asking for the name of one specific movie? If so, the only one that I can think of is "Comfort and Joy", starring Nancy McKeon. But in this one, she doesn't have amnesia, but her husband and family thinks she does. In the movie she hits a telephone pole, she is knocked out from the impact and when she wakes up she has a family.

Here's the plot to give you more info:

The life of Jane Berry was all materialist, until one Christmas Eve, she is involved in a car accident that changes her life forever. She wakes up to discover she is the mother of two, a wife and that her only job is in the house, besides her frequent volunteer work.

    Is lacunar amnesia really?

from what i've read the amnesia in the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is called lacunar amnesia. Is it real? i haven't found anything to say different so i was just wonderingIs lacunar amnesia really?
Never saw the movie, so I don't know if this matches up with the plot, but yes, it's real. Lacuna means "gap or missing part," and amnesia is a general term to describe memory loss. Literally translated, lacunar amnesia means "gap in memory." It's a reason (but not necessarily THE reason) people seem to completely forget traumatic situations.

Sometimes the memory returns, other times, gone forever.

Help?!?

    NAME......of...... MOVIE?

THANK YOU if you take the time to read this :) It should only take like 40 seconds, i promise ;-)

I remember many many many years ago, probably over 6-10 years ago, I saw this movie that involved a woman who had amnesia...I can't remember too much...but the fragments that I do remember are...

(I believe) the movie starts out with a lady in a grocery store, or some sort of supermarket, she looks as if she had just woken up and she is confused as to where she is. She is seen somewhat speed walking around like she is lost (she has amnesia but I did not realize until she went to see her doctor and told him she couldn't remember anything)

She mentions to her doctor that she remembers HIS name, but she cannot remember her OWN name. Eventually she is back home with her husband, daughter, and some lady who is there to help take care of her. She remembers NONE of them. Her husband has her taking a pill everyday...supposedly "medications".

Eventually throughout the movie she suspects her husband and that lady is like, conspiring against her or something, she stops taking the pills. At one point her and the lady fight and when the mom gets knocked to the floor, she gets her memory back.

The next scene involves her life before she lost her memory asking her daughter if her father ever touched her in a way she did not like (molestation). I think this may be how her amnesia started..

oh yeah at one point I think that lady gets shot in the head %26gt;.%26gt; she is dead sitting on a chair with a bullet in her forehead.

    See Jane Run (1995)
    IMDb reviewer writes:
This film starts off with Joanna Kerns (Jane Ravenson) wandering around in a grocery store (in Boston) and just plain looking with a blank stare at everyone in the store. As the story progresses, Jane Ravenson realizes that she has lost her memory and does not know where to go or what to do in this horrible situation. Jane finds her clothing covered with blood and lots of money ($10,000) in her top coat and only night wear underneath. Jane eventually finds she is married to a very rich and successful doctor named John Shea (Dr. Michael Ravenson) who loves her very much and they also have a sweet young daughter. This story will surprise you with its drama and final ending.

I think as long as the body is alive, the person is medically alive. Only when the body ceases to function at all can a person be declared dead.Is Someone Who Lost Their Memory Technically Dead?
No dead is when the heart stops. Their mind might be dead though.
Well it's not much of a quality of life but the person who has any life is still alive. Is Someone Who Lost Their Memory Technically Dead?
yeah, I get what you saying here, but I don't think just because their memory is dead that they are physically dead aswell. :-)
Just because someone can't remember anything doesn't mean they're necessarily dead. You're pretty much dead when your heart stops, so if someone's heart is still beating, I don't consider them dead, whether or not they remember who I am or not.
no to be technically dead your heart has to stop beating
If they are a different person, maybe the origional person would be dead, but the new person would not be.

However if the person is unresponsive, then they would be declared dead.
You are making sense, and that is an interesting way of thinking. But, no, that person isn't dead. Think of the disease alzheimer's, one suffers from brain dementure and begins to forget.. does that mean he is dead when he evenually forgets everything?
Yeah your making sense. Officially no, the person is not dead. All organs are functioning so life processes continue. But that's not what you meant. This is an ethical question with, I'm sad to say, no yes/ no answer. On one hand the persons memories live on with the people around them, so they can, to a degree, learn some of their old experiences. However, the person can never truly have the same memories. I have been watching a television series on Discover Channel and there is a woman who lost all long term memory. So she has no memory of her life or her children's for that mater. Her family members say she acts and talks like a completely different person. If this is the case, she might as well be a new person.

I'm sorry I can give you a great answer, I hope this gives you some food for thought.
Losing your memory and being brain dead are two completely different things. If you lose your memory that wont effect your personality, you can start to re-live your life. Just not with the same knowledge you had before. But being brain dead means that person is gone, the only tihng that IS left of them is their body.

In the movie 'Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind' did Joel and Clemintine had Retrograde Amesia?

I think since they both couldnt recall memories from their relationship..they both had retrograde amnesia, but just for the period of their relationship. Also i think Joel had Depression, Clemintine probably had it also but the story didnt go much into her case. So am I correct in my diagnosis? Or did they have a different disorder? In the movie 'Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind' did Joel and Clemintine had Retrograde Amesia?
It probably wouldn't be referred to as retrograde amnesia, because it was content specific (i.e., referring just to events associated with their relationship). Damage resulting in retrograde amnesia generally doesn't distinguish between the content of memory in this way (whilst sometimes skill/motor knowledge is retained, patients usually can't recall anything about things that happened up to a certain period, either personal events or prominent public events). Its more common for the amnesia to apply to a particular time before the damage (e.g. not being able to recall anything in the past 10/15/20 years).

If they were to be diagnosed with a disorder (which they probably wouldn't, as in the story, it is the intended consequence of the procedure), it would probably be referred to as a kind of targeted amnesia.

If such a procedure existed/were possible of course.

Is it true amnesia doesn't work and you don't completely fall asleep sometimes?

Is it true amnesia doesn't work and you don't completely fall asleep sometimes?
First of all it is anesthesia not amnesia. There are two types of anesthesia- local/regional and general. Local/regional anesthesia just numbs a small affected area that will be operated on or where pain may occur. A good example of this is Novocaine from your dentist or an epidural during labor and delivery for a woman. A general anesthesia is where you are totally put to sleep and have no knowledge of what occurs during surgery. It depends on what kind you will get as to whether or not you will be awake. Hope this helps.
Every body is different in their own ways..mentally AND physically. First off, don't believe everything you read or watch. And whatever you watch..don't let it get to your head.

I'm pretty sure that if you have to have surgery, you're going to be in good hands and the people are quite professional. GL to you!Is it true amnesia doesn't work and you don't completely fall asleep sometimes?

I saw it last year on tele or dvd. War genre. Young happy couple is newly married/engaged and lives with the guy's father on a farm. The guy goes to war, has an accident, and gets amnesia. The girl is told he died. She searches, and finds her guy working as a mechanic in the next town. He has no memory of her. She waitresses where he eats so she can befriend him. That's about all I remember.

I haven't seen the movie, but the description you gave sounds kinda like "Beautiful Dreamer." Hope this helps.Do you know the name of this movie please?
It kind of sounds like an episode of "The Waltons" when Mary Ellen goes looking for husband Kurt, who everyone thinks died at Pearl Harbor but really was just injured. She finds him and he is friends with a waitress.

Can you name this lifetime movie?

this is an amnesia lifetime movie during which a woman wakes up from amnesia only to learn that she's in a failing marriage and the reason for her being hospitalized was that she was shot.

slowly she is able to regain a connection with her husband as she struggles to regain the fragments of her past and ultimately learns why the hit took place and that she wasn't the target, but her husband, etc, etc.

does this sound familiar to anyone? can anyone name it for me?

thank you.Can you name this lifetime movie?
I think it might be -

    Another Woman(1994)

Based on Margot Dalton's Harlequin novel, this drama stars Justine Bateman as a woman who suffers a severe case of amnesia after a brutal attack. Unable to remember her name, her past, or her family, Bateman attempts to rebuild her life, starting with renewing her relationship with hubby Peter Outerbridge.

How would a person with anterograde amnesia live?

i just watched the movie memento, and sure, you could tattoo yourself with facts about yourself and put notes everywhere but could you really live alone and know what you're doing? How would a person with anterograde amnesia live?
Yes it true when you are looking at it from your own perspective of life, but life is dynamic and there are opportunities to be happy regardless of what situation you encounter. How would a person with anterograde amnesia live?
Well, I can tell you that it's the most frustrating and frightening thing; but the worst part is realizing you might never get better. In the movies amnesia is portrayed as somewhat romantic to the extent that people will wish for it to happen to them. The reality of it is not as heartwarming and anyone who is afflicted by it would not wish it on their worst enemy. Reality is waking up one day in a hospital bed not knowing how you got there and why; being told by your mother that not only were you six years older but also married with two small children. You cope by keeping detailed notes in your electronic diary, setting your alarms to go off at regular intervals and having a wonderful and understanding husband who keeps you on track. If your condition is not too debilitating I suppose you could live alone but only if someone could come to check on you pretty much everyday to make sure you haven't wandered off and forgotten where you live. Eventually though, you accept it. You get used to it. You deal with it...that's all you can do.
